Land Transport and Travel To and From Port Gothenburg

Gothenburg has excellent connections to domestic and international destinations, be that by air, train, bus or boat. Trams are also a popular and attractive means of getting around the city.

Gothenburg is home to two airports, with most flights departing from Landvetter Airport, 22 km / 14 miles outside the sity. Some domestic services operate out of the closer Gothenburg City Airport, which is located within the city's municipality.


Travel by Bus and Shuttles


DFDS Seaways' ferries leave from a new terminal beside the Gota Alvs Bridge in Hisingen. The central bus terminal has services which operate to and from here. Bus companies Eurolines, Säfflebussen and Swebus Express operate from near the Centralstationen at the Nils Ericsson Terminalen and link to all major destinations in Sweden.

Car Hire and Road Travel


Disembarking at the Port of Gothenburg, travellers' are connected to modern motorways that serve all major destinations in Sweden, besides the city acting as a gateway to the rest of Europe. The E6 motorway runs from north to south, while the E20 runs from a northeastern direction. National Highway 40 (from the east) is another road of motorway standard. Ring roads from all directions connect these roads to the port.

Hertz have over 10 outlets in Gothenburg, with one of the easiest to find located at the main train station. Situated in a shipyard building only a few minutes from the port, the Quality Hotel 11 also offers car rental facilities. Countless other companies offer car hire from offices near to the port.

Trains and Rail Travel


Trains depart Gothenburg for destinations all over Sweden from Centralstationen (tram station Centralstationen/Drottningtorget). A Copenhagen-bound train also leaves from the Øresund Bridge.

Car Parking


Gothenburg Port provides both long and short-stay parking, and has facilities for those with a disability.

Travel by Taxis


Taxis await passengers outside Gothenburg Port for journeys into the city and beyond. Taxis are metered, and although convenient, they can be and expensive more of transport.

Travel by Trams


The Stena Line terminal is situated near Masthuggstorget, which is served by tram numbers 3, 4 and 9. DFDS Seaways' ferries leave from a new terminal beside the Gota Alvs Bridge in Hisingen. There are nine tram lines, with all lines coming together and terminating at Brunnsparken near Centralstationen. Most trams also stop outside the Centralstationen.
